For the 2014–2015 testing administration, a secure browser must be installed on each computer or tablet that will be used for student testing. We are requesting parents to assist your child in downloading the browsers from the links below for your childs computer over this weekend.
Teachers will conduct sample test with the students on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Please refer to this Browser Installation Manual for assistance with your specific computer.
This brief student video gives key information about the upcoming Smarter Balanced Field Test, where to find the online practice test, and how to get additional information for the State of California.
The Smarter Balanced Practice Tests, including scoring guides, are now available for grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 in English-language arts (ELA) and mathematics. The Practice Tests provide a preview of the Smarter Balanced assessments, but do not reflect the full range of content that students may encounter on the actual assessments. As such, the practice tests should not be used to guide instructional decisions about students. No score reports are generated from the Practice Tests.
A computer connected to the Internet is required with one of the following Web browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 and 11
- Mozilla Firefox 10 and higher
- Google Chrome 31 and higher
- Apple Safari 5 and higher
- Default Web browsers on iPad and Android tablets
- Smarter Balanced Secure Browser (required for text-to-speech functionality)
An individual user account is not required to take the Practice Tests. Use the GUEST login and session when prompted.
For more detailed information, refer to the Secure Browser Installation Manual. The manual can be quite complex and confusing, so please pay attention to “Section II. Hardware Requirements” and “Section III. Software Requirements” beginning on page 9.
If you’re working with a “ChromeBook” of any brand, you may refer to these additional instructions for support.

The Practice Tests have general accessibility tools such as highlighting text and zooming content in and out. Also, the following accommodations are available for both ELA and mathematics at all grade levels:
