Educational Background

BA in Fine Arts, Emphasis Art Education. San Francisco State University

MA in Education, Special Interest Art Education San Francisco State University

Personal Information

I recently moved back to San Francisco where my original commute to River school started!  It feels good to be back in the city and participating in my life there again.  What do I do…I love exercise, especially any kind of ocean or water activity, riding my bike and walking, I like to cook and garden although I don’t have a garden right now.  I make art, I make things that are edgy and issue based, pretty or political, large and heavy, or small and delicate…I use the materials I need to use, to say what I need to say.  I try to hard leave the country as often as I possibly can!

What is important to you in education?

I believe that this is always changing for me.  Over the past few years it has become important to me to contribute to the understanding of art education and the possibility it has on learning in all subject areas. In our hyper-visual, media driven, globalized world where images, symbols and metaphors dominate, I find it more and more imperative that we provide students with the language of art.  I have been working on publication and research quite a bit lately.

In general with my students, I want to allow them and support them to “be who they are”! (…and when in doubt, make something)!

What Defines the River School to you?

I think River School is all of us!  It is ‘us’ trying to live well together, practicing the R’s together, being graceful and making mistakes together and accepting each other.
